The tendency to perform genitoplasty is becoming increasingly popular and accepted because plastic surgery has evolved significantly in terms of safe, fast and less traumatic techniques in recent years. Today, the tendency to undergo surgery intimate has increased because it is much more known thanks to its successful accomplishment more and more frequent. This trend applies to both men and women to respond to various problems and is marked by subjective aesthetic reasons mostly or for medical and functional reasons.

The United States is in first place, followed by Mexico, Argentina in third and Spain as the fourth country in the world where more cosmetic surgeries are performed and women occupy the first place regarding these procedures.
Experts say that intimate surgery or genitoplasty It is a surgery that lately is becoming more popular among women, which are more requested by women increasingly younger and for reasons mostly personal than medical, for wanting to increase self-confidence, for feeling discomfort in the genitals at the time of sexual activity or desire to embellish or rejuvenate their external genitalia and often wanting to hide intimate complexes.
In Spain, for example, girls can perform surgeries after 18 years and in cases of patients under this age, they could only be done with parental consent and psychologically proven and justified reasons.
As for medical reasons , there are cases where these surgeries are applied because there are diseases or alterations that compromise the area of the genitals such as tumors, infections, cysts among others. On the other hand, there is also the need to perform genitoplasty for aesthetic purposes by of transgender people as part of their confirmation of sex. These people do not identify with the sex with which they were born biologically so they decide to undergo this intervention and that in these cases are known as “feminizing genitoplasty” for transsexual women and “masculinizing genitoplasty” for men.
They are also known as sex or gender reassignment surgery and reconstruction surgery or genital reassignment. Also, according to the Spanish Association of Plastic Aesthetic Surgery (AECEP), this is another of the surgeries that is being increasingly requested and even accepted in today’s society thanks to the normalization of transsexuality in many areas.
